Lemoore, Calif. — Lemoore College congratulates Dr. Jiaxin Zhao and the engineering students who competed at the 29th Central California Engineering Design Challenge hosted by Fresno State on Saturday, November 1. One of Lemoore College’s teams earned third place overall out of 120 teams, drawn from more than 500 Introduction to Engineering students across the region.
Hosted by Fresno State’s Lyles College of Engineering, the annual challenge brought together first-year engineering students from multiple Central Valley institutions for a fast-paced, team-based build. This year’s theme, “optimizing mass public transit,” tasked teams of three to six students with designing, constructing, and operating a scaled prototype within 90 minutes. Top teams are invited to present at the Lyles College of Engineering’s Projects Day in spring 2026.
“Congratulations to our Golden Eagle engineers on this outstanding result,” said James Preston, president of Lemoore College. “Placing third in a field this large reflects our students’ creativity, grit, and teamwork—and it showcases the strong foundation they’re building in our engineering pathways here at Lemoore College.”
The Central California Engineering Design Challenge is a long-running regional collaboration that introduces first-year students to the engineering design process and cross-college teamwork in a high-energy setting at Fresno State’s South Gym.
Lemoore College applauds all students who represented the college and thanks event organizers and partners for providing an inspiring, hands-on learning experience for future engineers.
