HiSET® Exam
Earning your high school equivalency diploma is a powerful step toward better job opportunities, higher wages, and continued college education and the HiSET (High School Equivalency Test) is designed with busy adult learners in mind.
The HiSET measures real-world knowledge and skills in five subject areas:
• Language Arts – Reading
• Language Arts – Writing
• Mathematics
• Science
• Social Studies
What makes the HiSET especially flexible is that you can choose the testing format
that works best for you: computer-based or paper-and-pencil. The exam is also divided
into five separate modules, allowing you to focus on one subject at a time. We understand
that adult learners balance work, family, and other responsibilities. That’s why instruction
is offered both in-person and online, in English and Spanish, so you can learn in
the format that fits your schedule.
Financial assistance may be available through the California Adult Education Program
(CAEP) to help cover testing costs.

About HiSET® Exam
- CREATE A HISET TEST TAKER ACCOUNT
- Pay Exam Fees
$200 for all 5 subjects/$40 for each subject (Math, Writing, Reading, Science, and Social Studies) and $20 Yearly State Testing Fee. - Schedule Testing Dates by calling (559) 934-2147
- You will have up to 3 attempts for each subject for the calendar year (January -December).
- After 3 attempts, you will have to wait to test in the next calendar year, and you will be charged an additional $40 for another three attempts per
- A No show or a Could Not Test will be counted as one of your
- If you cannot make it to your exam, please GIVE US 3 DAYS NOTICE. If no notice is given, you will be charged the exam
- Photo ID *Must match the name on the registration list*, Passport, Driver’s/Temporary License, State ID, National ID, Military ID, and Student ID’s are acceptable
- Proof of address
- Voucher Verification if Self-Pay
- ETS number and Must know ETS log-in and password information
West Hills offers three official HiSET test taking locations conveniently situated in Coalinga, Lemoore, and Firebaugh. Specific rooms locations and testing times will be provided when scheduling an exam.
